My name is Christian Bleuer. I am a 2012 PhD graduate of The Australian National University’s Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies (The Middle East and Central Asia). In 2007 I received my MA from Indiana University’s Central Eurasian Studies Department.
From 2011-2015 I was based in Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan and Afghanistan, working as an researcher and consultant for various organizations. From 2015-2016 I was a Research Fellow at the Australian National University, focusing on regional security dynamics. In 2016 I returned to Central Asia as a field researcher.
My research focuses on security, politics and conflict in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. I also have a strong interest in Uzbekistan, as well as southern Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan.
I have written and conducted research for The Australian National University, Freedom House, The Afghanistan Analysts Network, International Crisis Group, The Eurasia Foundation of Central Asia, and others. See my publications here.
