My name is Christian Bleuer. I am a recent (2012) PhD graduate of The Australian National University’s Centre for Arab and Islamic Studies (The Middle East and Central Asia). In 2007 I received my MA from Indiana University’s Central Eurasian Studies Department. I currently live in Tajikistan where I am conducting research.
I have studied Farsi, Tajiki, Uzbek, Kazakh and Russian. My research focuses on identity, loyalty and conflict in Afghanistan and Tajikistan. I also have a strong interest in Uzbekistan, as well as southern Kyrgyzstan/Kazakhstan.
In 2006 I created The Afghanistan Analyst, an online research portal. I regularly update the site. In particular, I compile and publish annually a comprehensive bibliography on Afghanistan.
In 2010 I created an equivalent website for Tajikistan.
For three years, starting in February 2007, I blogged at Afghanistanica and then at Ghosts of Alexander.
I am not interested in providing quotes or interviews to journalists. Sorry.
